Student Success Services (SSS) hires tutors throughout the year and hires tutors for all courses offered at Peru State College. Your application will be reviewed immediately after submission.
Qualifications
- Possess a positive attitude, be self-motivated, and desire to help others become successful
- Must be currently enrolled at Peru State College
- Must be at least a sophomore at the time you begin tutoring (freshman can apply in the spring to become a tutor for the following fall semester)
- Have sufficient time to tutor at least three hours each week
- Must attend 10 hours of paid tutor training—independent of any actual tutoring
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Must have received at least a B in the courses for which you intend to tutor
- Obtain a recommendation from a faculty member in the subject area you will be tutoring.
- Be willing to commit to the entire semester.
Responsibilities
- Must complete all state employment forms with Peru State’s Human Resources department.
- Must complete CRLA Level 1 training. This is paid training provided by SSS.
- Attend all required training sessions and apply training to tutoring.
- Be engaged in all trainings and meetings through active listening, contribution to discussion, positive communication, taking notes, and looking for new ideas that may be different from your own.
- Set up tutoring schedules with tutees.
- Assess academic needs of the tutee and focus tutoring efforts on helping the tutee address those needs.
- Provide academic assistance in the subject matter, study skills, organization, and time management.
- Maintain excellent communication with the Tutoring Coordinator.
- Communicate frequently with the professor of the course which is being tutored, if applicable.
- Maintain proper paperwork and records of tutoring times.
- Submit required paperwork and timecards to the Tutoring Coordinator by weekly deadline.
