DEPARTMENT: Middle School EL
JOB TITLE: Middle School Core Content (Math, English/Language Arts) Teacher with EL Endorsement
REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education Level: Bachelor’s degree or higher–major in content area; EL Endorsement or progress toward
B. Certification: Must meet standards for certification as a teacher of an elementary or secondary core content area as set by the Nebraska Department of Education; must meet standards for certification of an elementary or secondary EL teacher
C. Knowledge of curriculum development, Webb’s Depth of Knowledge, Nebraska state standards and the ACT standards in
endorsed content area.
D. Knowledge of strategies to assist in the language development of EL students.
E. Teaching experience preferred but not required
REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal and District EL Coordinator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Must be able to teach programs in core content area according to district guidelines.
2. Able to teach all levels of the designated middle school core content area.
- Must incorporate problem-solving activities and higher order thinking skills in the classroom.
- Be a collaborative team member that assists in program evaluation on a regular basis.
5. Incorporate best practices in designated content area and assessment data when making instructional decisions.
6. Participate in appropriate in-service development programs and implement as determined.
7. Provide leadership and supervision of students in developing, organizing, and utilizing resources for an
effective instructional program at the middle school level
- Assist in program evaluation on a regular basis.
- Design curriculum to meet Nebraska State Standards.
10. Provide a safe, orderly, learning environment and assist in the supervision and direction of students as assigned.
11. Provide a variety of learning experiences in which students are actively engaged as participants in the lesson.
12. Must have knowledge and ability to use and incorporate electronic devices as a part of the instructional program.
13. Implement daily lesson plans incorporating both content and language objectives.
14. Progress monitor students using standards-based checklists.
15. Incorporate best practices for English Learners when making instructional decisions.
