The Nebraska Department of Education has awarded a grant to the Nebraska State College System to launch a Rural Tutoring Program. This pilot program will offer virtual tutoring to students in grades K-12 in Education Service Units 1, 4, and 13. Tutors will be hired from Chadron, Peru, and Wayne State Colleges to provide instruction to K-12 students. K-12 students can provide homework to the Tutors with specific topics in which they need help. Through one-on-one tutoring with K-12 students, teacher education candidates can apply what they have learned as they serve as Tutors with supervision.
Before you graduate, do you want to work with K-12 students and use what you’ve learned in your teacher education courses? Utilize the pedagogy you’ve acquired in your college classes by working virtually one-on-one as a Tutor for rural Nebraskan students in grades K–12. Peru State College will be hiring teacher education candidates who have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program to serve as Tutors.
Tutors will provide assistance to K–12 students virtually in the subjects and grade levels that are specified. Tutors are asked to contribute six (6) hours of tutoring availability each week. Tutoring will take place on campus in a designated area of Peru State College with required equipment (computer, tablet, and headset) supplied.
A variety of Tutors will be utilized. Teacher education candidates majoring in all endorsements are welcome to apply, with the understanding that the majority of tutoring is expected to focus upon assisting K-12 students in the areas of English, math, science, and social studies.
Paid Tutor training will begin mid-January 2024; selected Tutors will work for the duration of the Spring 2024 semester.
