- Possess a positive attitude, be self-motivated, and desire to help others become successful.
- Be a member of Student Success Services (SSS).
- Have a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 or above Peer Mentors will work approximately five to ten hours per week, to include:
- One half-hour mentor training meeting each week.
- One “power hour,” individually scheduled with the SIC/Mentor Coordinator, for reporting and discussing mentoring activities, planning activities/events, preparing correspondences, updating contact sheets and timecards, etc.
- Regular communications with assigned mentees, face-to-face and/or by phone, mail or email.
- Mentoring activities conducted individually and/or in groups.
- Peer Mentors – in consultation with the SIC/mentor coordinator – will plan, organize, and conduct activities designed to engage SSS members in meaningful social interactions and/or academically or culturally enriching experiences. At least two of these per semester will be group activities planned and conducted in collaboration with other peer mentors (under the supervision of the SIC/Mentor Coordinator).
- Peer Mentors will consistently encourage SSS members to make use of the transitional, academic, career, and financial guidance services provided by the SSS professional staff.
- Peer Mentors are required to maintain contact sheets and submit these with timecards to get paid.
